This book by Joseph Ellis focuses on six crucial moments in the life of our new nation and notes that the members of the revolutionary generation were conscious of the fact that they were establishing precedents on which future generations would rely. It was a heavy read and tough to get through in parts, even for a history buff like myself. The story that sticks out in my mind is Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr.

This book was a bi-atch for sure. I did finish it, and I was proud. I felt it started to get more interesting near the end, but way too dry and historical for me. This book actually killed my family's book club.
