Girl With a Pearl Earring

Our next book, chosen by Kristin, was about the life of Dutch master Johannes Vermeer and Griet, the young maid that lived in her house. This one has also been made into a movie (starring Colin Firth and Scarlett Johansson). So far, we’re two for two on movie adaptations. This meeting started another tradition – of having the meeting at my house as a default. You can check out a review of the Tracy Chevalier novel here.

I really enjoyed this book, I liked the concept of imagining the story behind a famous painting. I also enjoy historical fiction, it is fun to get a glimpse of another time.

I liked it too. Funny that I never got around to seeing the movie. Did anyone else see it? Was it any good?

Bother. I guess I should confess to a penchant for posting comments on blogs as my husband. It's accidental, sadly frequent and highly annoying.

Super book...remember we even looked at pictures of the painting while we discussed. I'd like to reread this one.

I really enjoyed this one. I never saw the movie, but I heard it was good. I couldn't manage to get the husband too excited about seeing it.

I saw the movie, and thought it was well done. I usually enjoy books much more than the movies, so I am biased.
