In this novel by Niccolo Ammaniti, nine-year-old Michele Amitrano discovers what he believes to be the dead body of a boy his own age. He soon discovers the boy is not dead, but his story-which includes kidnapping and ransom-are too much for a nine-year-old to fathom and involve virtually every adult in the tiny community. Otherwise known as the book about the boy in the hole. It was an interesting first choice for Alison, but a memorable one. Discuss!

This book gave me nightmares! I thought Alison was crazy for picking it... The book was definately disturbing but at the same time it also made you want to continue reading.
I had a hard time getting into this book. I don't remember many details (apart from the hole) but I do remember that I really wanted to smack that kid. He didn't do anything right.
I agree. I also remember thinking there wasn't a likeable character in the book at all. The townspeople were all in on the kidnapping or something, right?
I don't remember much about this book. I do remember being very annoyed with the main character and also not liking the ending. I think I do remember the whole town being in on the kidnapping . . .
Oh, the whole town was in on it of course! No characters were redeeming, including the boy in the hole. And just for the record, I do a little bit more investigating before I pick a book now. I won't ever randomly pick like that again.
Yikes. I don't remember this book very much, and it sounds like that is a good thing. However, I do remember the hole and being creeped out.
